Architecture is never neutral; it hurts or it heals. MASS Design Group is a nonprofit design collective with the mission to research, build, and advocate for architecture that promotes justice and human dignity.

MASS—a Model of Architecture Serving Society— began in 2008 with the design and construction of the Butaro District Hospital in Rwanda, a project of Partners In Health and the Rwandan Ministry of Health. Since then, we have grown to a team of over 120+ architects, landscape architects, engineers, builders, furniture designers, writers, filmmakers, and researchers representing 20 countries across the globe. With over 30 projects built or under construction and over 500,000 people served, our work provides the infrastructure, buildings, and physical systems necessary for growth, dignity, and well-being, while always focusing on the specifics of the local context.

We rely on philanthropic income to help us deploy design services wherever they’re needed most. We established the Catalyst Fund to increase access to architecture that prioritizes justice, improves planetary and human health, and advances beauty and dignity in our world. The Catalyst Fund is a base of unrestricted philanthropic capital we invest to effectively “catalyze” a project’s path to completion.

Our organizational history has been defined by partnering with organizations on the frontlines of the world’s major health challenges—from responding to acute epidemics of Ebola in Liberia and cholera in Haiti, to addressing the chronic injustices of structural health inequities in the US and Rwanda. In response to the unique spatial and health challenges presented by COVID-19, we have been compiling a series of design strategies that for infection control.

Support MASS Design Group
MASS Design Group is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been partnering with Autodesk Inc. and the Autodesk Foundation for nearly a decade. Autodesk has been a key partner in advancing our mission through their in-kind donations of software, technology support, and trainings, as well as grant support to our Catalyst Fund. Autodesk team members have worked closely with our architects, engineers, and construction managers to introduce new building technologies and services to our global projects. The Autodesk Foundation's continued support to the Catalyst Fund has allowed us to donate design services to people and organizations with visions to affect positive change.

Every contribution received through this form will be matched by the Autodesk Foundation, up to $50,000, to support transformative projects and partnerships in the built environment. You will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation, suggested to begin at $25.00. We deeply appreciate your support.
