PACE Center at J.J. Carroll Redevelopment
Brighton, Massachusetts, USA
MASS has partnered with Element Care to design and build a PACE Center (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) on the ground floor of 2Life’s J.J. Carroll building. The space will provide comprehensive clinical and social services to older adults with an aim to consider the wellbeing of the community holistically and look at its social determinants.
The PACE Center aims to enable residents to live in community with dignity, safety, and as much autonomy as possible. It includes day dining rooms, a health clinic, and administrative and support areas. The design weaves in trauma-informed care principles such as access to views, prospect and refuge, and connections to nature.
According to the Boston 2030 report, the number of senior households in the city will increase by 53% between 2010 and 2030. Compounded with this demand, many senior residents do not have the financial resources necessary for a basic standard of living. At a time when Massachusetts ranked third in the nation for elder economic insecurity, where seniors are at times choosing between paying for housing and paying for health care, the integrated PACE center will provide culturally sensitive, affordable care to residents close to home.
