Can community infrastructure like schools help protect and conserve biodiversity? 

African Wildlife Foundation partnered with MASS Design Group to design a conservation primary school in Ilima, Congo. The challenge of building in such an isolated context called for a new design and construction process - one that relies almost exclusively on local craft, materials and workers. Living and working in Ilima, MASS Designers and their Congolese colleagues discover how the combination of local knowledge and design expertise creates incredible opportunities for materials innovation, sustainability, and social impact both through the school's environmental footprint and it’s human handprint.
