Max Gottlieb is an urban planner and researcher with a deep interest in community-driven design processes. He joined MASS Design Group in 2022 as part of the Advancement team, supporting the realization of prospective new projects and crafting compelling proposals in partnership with Studio leadership.
Max comes to MASS from a small urban planning consultancy where he collaborated on community engagement projects for major coastal resilience and adaptive reuse projects, in addition to leading business development strategy. Max has held positions with the Urban Design Forum, Municipal Art Society, MoMA PS1, and the South Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation. As part of a team of researchers and architects, Max conducted neighborhood-level analysis for the Center for Architecture’s exhibition Mapping Community: Public Investment in NYC. He holds a Masters in City and Regional Planning from the Pratt Institute where he completed his thesis on the memorialization and reuse of post-carceral Rikers Island through a restorative justice approach.
