USAID Health Infrastructure Primer

The ‘Basic Principles for Building Health Infrastructure Primer’ serves as an introduction to the design and construction of global health facilities. It is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and is intended to give USAID officers, contracting organizations, and global health workers – especially those involved in health facility construction, maintenance, or assessment – the basic tools and parameters for the improvement of facilities and the creation of appropriate infrastructure. While this Primer focuses primarily on resource-limited environments, or those where USAID missions are typically based, the basic tools could apply to any environment, especially those with patient populations of unknown and/or infectious diseases, high levels of poverty, and/or settings with unreliable or unknown utility and professional capacity.
