Can a building spur a rural innovation?

Issamuel Jean Louis started the first library in rural Fond des Blancs, Haiti in his own home. Haiti Projects, an NGO dedicated to lifting Haiti out of poverty, recognized Issamuel’s efforts and is partnering with MASS to build a new facility to house this community resource. Through Exploration, Ideation, and Accompaniment for Haiti Projects, MASS assessed the overall needs and provided solutions for Fond des Blancs, in particular to solve the problem of “brain drain,” or the best and brightest of Fond des Blancs leaving for bigger cities like Port-au-Prince. MASS and Haiti Projects agreed that more than a library was needed to support the community and have extended their vision. The team will be building a tech hub, dubbed KLEKOM, to provide this rural town with educational, cultural, economic, and family planning services.
