Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program

Can an office empower social impact?

Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) leads the nation in the provision of healthcare to the homeless. At its main facility, anticipated expansion of clinical programs requires that some administrative functions relocate, such as the finance department, for which MASS recently completed an office fit-out in a nearby building.

MASS’s commitment to BHCHP resulted in a high-quality design. Low workstations with translucent partitions are placed at exterior walls to maximize daylight and views for all staff.

Team-based and alternative work styles are supported by varied work environments. A graphic at the entry reminds staff and visitor of BHCHP’s mission and values. MASS brought partners to the process whose generous in-kind-donations made an affordable, high-quality interior possible: Herman Miller, Shaw Floors, and MechoSystems.

The poor and the homeless deserve dignity in their healthcare, but the important administers who make this service possible require a dignified and supportive environment as well. In this way spirits are lifted, staff is retained and impact is expanded. Healthcare for the homeless is improved.

This completed project, is the first of several projects that MASS and BHCHP anticipate.
