Juliette Cook
Intern Architect
Boston, MA, USA
Juliette joined MASS in July 2022 and currently works on the Performance and Provenance team, specifically in material systems. She participates in the design process for a diverse portfolio of MASS projects, evaluating these from the balanced perspectives of embodied carbon, operational performance, and cost, while also considering other important performance metrics, such as reuse potential, toxicity, durability, labour, constructability, and more. She feels strongly that a return to a deep understanding of materials and the ways in which they go together will enable a more regenerative design.
Juliette has also been working with the City of Toronto on a benchmarking study on embodied carbon, helping to inform a future system of tiered targets and developing a standard reporting template for whole building life cycle assessments. Prior to joining MASS, she worked as a designer and sustainability consultant for White Arkitekter’s London office, where she created a palette of non-conventional, low-carbon materials for a large-scale cancer treatment centre.
Juliette holds a masters of architecture from the University of Toronto, and a bachelor of arts in geography and environmental studies from McGill University. She is currently completing an online certificate course through the Parsons New School’s Healthy Materials Lab, “Healthier Materials and Sustainable Building.”
