Julia Bürgi joined the MASS Kigali office as an Associate in July 2018. As a member of MASS's development and communication teams, Julia leverages her academic training in architecture and urbanism, professional experience in public health, and passion for social justice to develop communications strategy and materials, while identifying pursuits of the most relevant new projects for the organization.
Julia came to MASS through the 2016 airborne infection control course co-taught by MASS at Harvard Medical School, which enabled her to combine her architecture and public health experience to advise tuberculosis facilities and programs on best practices. Before joining MASS, Julia worked on airborne infection control for the Zero TB Cities Initiative at Advance Access and Delivery and in communications at The Global Fund to Fight HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Julia received her Bachelor’s in Architectural History and Theory from Barnard College and is working on her Master’s in Urbanism Studies with the Royal Technical University of Sweden (KTH). Her Master’s thesis consists of the comparative examination of the experience of Somali communities in public spaces through the case studies of the suburbs of Rinkeby in Stockholm, Sweden and Eastleigh in Nairobi, Kenya.
